Transport Minister Daryl Vaz has confirmed reports that there was a bomb threat at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) Wednesday night but said no flights were affected by the incident.
According to Vaz, the threat was received through the web chat to Caribbean Airlines. He said the building was immediately evacuated and the relevant agencies were called to assist.
The minister said all flights had already departed or arrived for the night and so no flights were affected as a result of the incident.
The building was reopened at 11:55 pm after the police, the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch and the Jamaica Defence Force, and other parties, made security checks.
“I can’t fathom who could think that that would be something that could help Jamaica and it is an unprecedented situation which I’m quite concerned about,” Vaz said.
